Ronald Reagan Myth, Facts and the Rewriting of History

Ronald Reagan was 100 years old in February. His birthday was celebrated by conservatives and the Tea Party. I hate to break this to them but the so called "King of the Conservatives" died when he was 93.

If I say this out loud, I risk getting hit in the head by a shovel wielding neocon, but Reagan would never be accepted by the GOP/TP today because of his liberalism! I will break it down into an easy to follow format, the fairy tale, followed by the truth.
As always, I you are welcomed to refute anything printed in this blog. Also please note the absence of any real arguments as it is difficult to prove a fact wrong.

Reagan never raised Taxes:
As governor of California, Reagan signed into law the largest tax increase in the history of any state up till then.while he nearly doubled state spending.
As president, Reagan raised taxes in seven of his eight years in office.
including four times in just two years! Reagan raised taxes a total of eleven times during his term as President. Reagan, the anti-tax zealot, is mythology

Reagan cut the federal budget deficit:
During the Reagan years, the debt increased to nearly $3 trillion. Reagan enacted a major tax cut his first year in office and government revenue dropped off precipitously.
Despite the conservative myth that tax cuts somehow increase revenue, the government went deeper into debt and Reagan had to raise taxes just a year after he enacted his tax cut. Despite ten more tax hikes on everything from gasoline to corporate income, Reagan was never able to get the deficit under control.

Reagan’s tax cuts lowered Unemployment rates:

Nationwide, unemployment rose to 10.8 percent after Reagan enacted his much-touted tax cut in 1981! It took years for the rate to get back down to its previous level. Meanwhile, income inequality exploded. Despite the myth that Reagan presided over an era of unmatched economic boom for all Americans, Reagan disproportionately taxed the poor and middle class and the economic growth of the 1980′s did little to help them.

 Reagan cut federal government spending:

Reagan promised to move boldly, decisively, and quickly to control the runaway growth of federal spending but federal spending nearly tripled under Reagan. He bailed out Social Security in 1983 after attempting to privatize it and set up a progressive taxation system to keep it funded into the future. He promised to cut government agencies like the Department of Energy and Education but ended up adding one of the largest — the Department of Veterans' Affairs which now has a budget of nearly $90 billion and close to 300,000 employees. He also raised defense spending by over $100 billion a year.

 Reagan was anti-abortion:

As governor of California in 1967, Reagan signed a bill to liberalize the state’s abortion laws that resulted in more than a million abortions. When Reagan ran for president, he advocated a constitutional amendment that would have prohibited all abortions except when necessary to save the life of the mother, but once in office, he never signed any anti abortion laws.

Reagan's dream… a world free of nuclear weapons:

Stemming from the president’s belief that the biblical account of Armageddon prophesied nuclear war — and that apocalypse could be averted if everyone, especially the Soviets, eliminated nuclear weapons. Reagan’s military buildup was meant to crush the Soviet Union and to put the United States in a stronger position from which to establish effective arms control for the the entire world — a vision acted out by Regean’s vice president, George H.W. Bush, when he became president. And don't forget Nancey's psychics.

Reagan was tough on illegal immigrants:

Reagan signed into law a bill that made any immigrant who had entered the country before 1982 eligible for amnesty. The bill was sold as a crackdown, but its tough sanctions on employers who hired undocumented immigrants were removed before final passage. The bill helped 3 million people and millions of family members gain American residency. It has since become a source of  major embarrassment for conservatives.

 Reagan believed in open government:

Reagan and other senior U.S. officials secretly sold arms to officials in Iran which was subject to an arms embargo at the time, in exchange for American hostages.
Some funds from the illegal arms sales also went to fund anti-Communist rebels in Nicaragua — something Congress had already prohibited the administration from doing. When the deals went public, the Iran-Contra Affair, as it came to be know, was an enormous political scandal that forced several senior administration officials to resign.

Reagan vetoed a comprehensive anti-Apartheid act:

This act placed sanctions on South Africa and cut off all American trade with the country. Reagan’s veto was overridden by the Republican-controlled Senate.

Reagan helped create the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden:

Reagan fought a proxy war with the Soviet Union by training, arming, equipping, and funding Islamist mujahedin fighters in Afghanistan. Reagan funneled billions of dollars, along with top-secret intelligence and sophisticated weaponry to these fighters through the Pakistani intelligence service. The Taliban and Osama Bin Laden, a prominent mujahedin commander, emerged from these groups.  Reagan’s decision to continue the proxy war after the Soviets were willing to retreat played a direct role in Bin Laden' ascendancy which led to 9-11.

Conservatives have the tendency to draw their conclusions first then work backwards looking for validation. If facts get in the way of the conclusions, the facts are then ignored. If you are of the ilk and would like to prove me wrong, please do. The best you could ever do is the same old GOP "dance around the subject"!

Face it, Ronnie Ray-Gun sucked as has everything tainted by Republicans since his presidency.

The Wondfull and Glorious Time I Spent with Dame Elizabeth Taylor!

Ummm....sorry folks, I got nothin'.

I never met her. I never, by choice, saw a movie with her in it.
I liked her eyebrows.
Thank you for making America aware of AIDS.

This has been a shameless plug to attract people to my blog.
It really is not that bad of a blog. It may be a bit scientific for you, it maybe a bit too political for you.
But your just a punk and you have no clue what is good for you anyways!

If you don't eat fiber, you fill up with shit till you explode.

I really got to stop hanging with the tea bags!

We are all Bozo's on this Republican Bus! Republicans Explain Evolution!

Mystical Male Voice: [rumbling sounds] Before the beginning, there was this turtle. And the turtle was alone. And he looked around. And he saw his neighbor, which was his mother, and he lay down on top of his neighbor, [coyote howl] and behold, she bore him in tears, an oak tree, which grew all day, and then fell over, [coyote howl] like a bridge. And low, under the bridge there came a catfish, and he was very big, [coyote howls] and he was walking, [more howls] and he was the biggest he had seen. [starts fading] And so, with the fiery balls of this fish, one of which is the sun, and the other, they called the moon… [sounds end]

Calm Male Narrator: Yes, some uncomplicated peoples still believe this myth. But here in the technical vastness of The Future, we can guess that surely, the past was very different. [begins fading] We can surmise, for instance, that these two great balls… [sounds end]

Echoey Male Voice: We know for certain, for instance, that for some reason, for some time in the beginning, there were hot lumps. Cold and lonely, they whirled noiselessly through the black holes of space [reverb effect here]. These insignificant lumps came together to form the first union, our sun, the heating system. And about this glowing gas bag, rotated the earth, a cats-eye among aggies, [reverb begins to really build] blinking in astonishment across the face… of time. [reverb overwhelmes everything, sounds disappear]

First Male Lecturer: [lecture room noises, voice quiet in the room] Well, we were covered with a molten scum of rocks, bobbing on the surface like rats. Later, when there was less heat, these giant rock groups settled down among the land masses. During this extinct time, our Earth was like a steam-room, and no one, not even man, could get in. [coughs start in audience] However, the oceans and the sewers were simmering with a rich protein stew, and the mountains moved in to surround and protect them. They didn’t know then that living as we know it was already taken over. Thank you. [a round of applause, constant coughs begin]

Second Male Lecturer: [brief rustling of paper] Animals without… backbones… hid from each other, or fell down. Clamosaurs and oysterettes appeared as appetizers. Then came the sponges, which sucked up about 10%… of all life. [more rustling] [clears throat] Hundreds of years later, in the Late Devouring Period, fish became obnoxious. [clears throat] Trailerbikes, chiggerbites, and miskweetoes collided aimlessly in the dense gas. Finally [bit more rustling], tiny, edible plants sprang up in rows, giving birth to generations of insecticides and other small, dying creatures. Thank you. [applause, new rumbling sound sets in]

Male Voice With Throaty Reverb: [some African flutes and drums play] Millions of months passed, and, 28 days later, the moon appeared. This small change was reflected best, perhaps, in the sand dollar, which shrank to almost nothing at the bottom of the pool, where even dumb amphibians, like catfish, laid their eggs in the boiling waters, only to be gobbled up every three minutes by the giant sea orphans and jungle bunnies, which scared everybody. [music begins to build] And so, IN FEAR AND HOT WATER, [music approaches a climax] A REPUBLICAN IS BORN!!!"

WTF People Wake up or It's Game Over Man

I often wonder why young Americans did nothing to protest the outrageous criminal regime that had taken control of the United States in 2004.  Where was the resistance? Two illegal wars, a growing police state, and several trillion dollars stolen by criminal bankers from the American people -- why didn't you protest, resist- burn tires in the streets?

Having grown up during the Vietnam War, I was immersed in the protest movement and vibrant anti-war music and culture of the 1960s.  "Lucky Man" by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer is a good example of the anti-war music of the time.  I find it odd that there is no similar anti-war movement or music today.  Faced with never-ending wars in the Middle East, today's youth seem completely apathetic and apolitical.

The photo of a summary execution by a South Vietnamese police chief showed the lawlessness of the war.

During those years, the United States was engaged in an undeclared war of aggression in Southeast Asia that nobody really understood.  Every week, the American people saw actual photos from the war in LIFE magazine and could easily see through the deception that we were fighting "communism".   After 8 years of war in Afghanistan and 18 years in Iraq, however, there is no similar photo-journalism of comparable quality coming from the "embedded" journalists covering these wars.  Likewise, there is virtually no anti-war music or protest movement against the criminal wars being fought in our name.

WHY?

The famous photo of Vietnamese children burned with napalm changed U.S. public opinion about the war.

An x-KGB agent said "Ideological subversion is the process which is legitimate and open. You can see it with your own eyes.... It has nothing to do with espionage... in reality the main emphasis of the KGB is NOT in the area of intelligence at all. According to my opinion, and the opinions of many defectors of my caliber, only about 15% of time, money, and manpower is spent on espionage as such. The other 85 percent is a slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare. What it basically means is to change the perception of reality of every American [so] that despite the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country."

So when Fox news or any of their Far right pundits spread one of the hate stories, they change the very soul of American reality to the point that is easily manipulated.

If you announce a big enough lie and will repeat it, then people at the end will believe it" Mein Kampf, Adolph Hitler.

I will point out one of many stories for you.

The constant rant that Obama is not from America. Proof can not dissuade them.  and now, thanks to people like the Fox News, birther's, etc. 1 out of 5 Americans believe that he is Muslim. Twice as many people believe this now than did a year ago. See how it works now?

If you are one that believe he is a Muslim. You will fight hard for what you "know to be true"
If you know he is not a Muslim. These people have two choices. Most likely, you will just sit there with your thumb up your butt.

Us older people, we have seen this dance and we know the tune, We have stood up against the hysterical crowd before you were born and too long afterwords.

"He can not be president because he will run the government by and for his church!"
"He is controlled by foreign interests."
"A person of that religion can not and should not be president."

Sound familiar?

No, I am not talking about Barrack Obama. These are the reasons given for why John F. Kennedy should not be president because he was Catholic.

Your choice now! sit there and do nothing, we all lose to the rabble. Your freedoms will be taken away one by one as they have been but you have not been concerned to notice. This is how the Nazis took over Germany.

The controlled media today censors and sanitizes the images and information about the wars and the human suffering the aggression has caused to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.  The public is kept in the dark about the true costs of the illegal wars, both human and financial.  Most importantly, the U.S. media keeps powerful images like these from the Vietnam and Iraq wars off the pages of our newspapers.

After nearly 19 years of fighting and bombing Iraqis, very few images of the human cost of the war have been published.  The ones that have been seen are horrible beyond belief and reveal the criminal nature of the war of aggression.

Coexistance

Cracks are forming in the foundations of our power structure. I am not talking about our crumbling infrastructure, I speak of the foundations that an authoritarian handful of those at the top of the political and religious game wheeling almost unlimited power over "We, the people"

Those oligarchs who run our country and the rest of the world are beginning to feel a change in the wind as the Internet pulls back the curtain of secrecy and ignorance they have fostered to expose the wizard at work with his levers and knobs, even as he says "Pay no heed to the man behind the curtain" we are learning the truth from independent internet reporters.

Knowledge is power and the internet takes no prisoners. As "We, the people" are learning, the oligarchs  no longer have the curtain of ignorance, superstition, fear and infighting to contain the truth and the conform the masses to their wishes. The Genie of truth has been released from the bottle and will not be contained again.

Church, state and school leaders are scrambling to maintain their status quo as fundamental change takes the planet over. The vast majority of us have nothing to fear with the global changes coming except the closed mindedness of fear itself. We have, or are, learning that every person on the planet is like any other person. I remember back when Kennedy could not be president because he was catholic. Obama can't be president because he is black. All the old propaganda can not hold water anymore.

The only people who have to worry about this change are the authoritarians who tell us how to lead our lives as they hide behind their curtains and pull the levers, doing as they please.
Authoritarians, your days are numbered until mankind can then live a peaceful coexistence among ourselves without your lies and deceits.
WTF you crazy old man!!!
Do I think the world can change??

Maybe!

Congress, Iran and Reality

Congress Stupidly votes to denounce Ahmadinejad!

The coup in 1953, code name AJAX, was the CIA's first success at overthrowing a Democratically elected foreign government. This led to generations of anti-American hatred which led to the overthrow of the Shah in the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

After an coup coup d'etat and constant meddling of the United States to prop up the oppressive regime of the Shah? The U.S. arming and military support of Iraq to attack Iran, the Iran Contra affair? The Navy shooting down Iran Air flight 655 with the loss of 290 civilians? Operation Praying Mantis, the largest U.S. naval combat since WW II against Iran in 1988? Bush 41's Axis of Evil speech and border incursions?

WTF good is the U.S. Congress denouncement? Do they think that this will help the cause of the demonstrators? Do they think that a country that hates the United States for what we have done to them even cares about what our meddling Congress thinks? This denouncement only gives the regime in power to use as leverage against their own people while Congress goes home for the night.

Congress does not seem to even understand that the Ayatollah is the supreme leader, not Ahmadinejad.

Congress still does not get it. What would they say if shoe was on the other foot?

Who are the first in line wanting a right wing government overthrown? Why it's the right wing Republican party of the United States! Funny how right wingers hate each other, they know what right wingers are all about.

The world
IS watching. Both Iran and the U.S. Congress.
